Technological trends are based on current technical innovations. They usually take effect over a shorter period of time. Technological trends are less comprehensive than megatrends. But they can trigger megatrends through adaptation, as in the development of the Internet: the megatrend connectivity was initiated by the Internet.

While technical trends used to be more in the area of industry trends, today they have acquired cross-industry significance.
